![]() ![]() Not to mention the ‘5 minute’ bush walk, which is dangerously unlit at night, with tree roots to trip over. We stayed in the bush belle tent, the linen on the very uncomfortable bed was clean, but overall the tent and facilities it were filthy.stains all over the carpet, mould on the tent that had rips for mosquitos to enter in and bite us all night. Ps- coolest thing is meeting all the interesting people from around the world who are staying here! And this is coming from a platinum blonde spray tanned scottsdale Arizona USA chick. It won’t be luxury, it will be different but that’s the glory in expanding your horizons in life. I cleaned all the dishes I used BEFORE I used them. But with that said I’m glad I tried that experience although my germ-a-phobe self had to relax and accept the moment. ![]() Honestly- next time I would exclusively eat at the cafe, and skip cooking in the community kitchen. They don’t have any condiments so bring everything you need to cook including salt and pepper. You have to clean up your own stuff and be a good neighbor. It was a lot like camping in that you can’t get too picky! However, there was plenty of fridge space, pots, pans cups and silverware. The tough part for me was the community kitchen with the older pots, pans and flies strewn about. There’s a heater in the caboose if you get cold- no AC but we didn’t need it (just aired it out at night). No electric plug but you can charge stuff in the station/ kitchen area which is by the baths and showers. The bed and provided linens were comfortable. On that note Solscape is super inexpensive. ![]() There’s only one self contained dwelling it’s at the front of the property and more expensive. Bring your own towel- they don’t provide. I was always trying to figure out when they cleaned them so I could shower then but never got the schedule right. The shared bathrooms and showers were clean enough- better than a camp ground, but not perfection. Ok back to Solscape- we stayed in a caboose, just me and my boyfriend. Oh- be sure to go to the epic waterfall about 20 mins from Solscape- seriously worth it. I seriously wouldn’t want raglan any other way. Given that it’s undiscovered the hotel accommodations are little to none. awesome cafe food, good surf and the locals may or may not wear shoes. Raglan itself is a hidden gem and lodging options are limited. In all honesty, I’m a high maintenance gal and some of the parts of Solscape took some courage(more later), but I would 1.) stay there again in a heart beat and 2.) challenge you to try this different form of lodging. If you aren’t used to staying in community type lodging than it’s a chance to step out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself to a way many others happily travel. Solscape is not a luxury hotel or hostel - but if your in Raglan that’s not what you are looking for anyways. Solscape is an unbelievable concept and a place to escape the rigidity of typical lodging. ![]()
